Gallant Gifts Supports 2016 Warrior Games
A Celebration of Patriotism and Perseverance
Every year, several hundred veterans participate in a competition rooted in pride, patriotism and perseverance, three characteristics that are synonymous with the 4th of July. FedBid is proud to have played a role in helping support this competition, which honors the men and women who have served to preserve and protect our freedom.
The Department of Defense Warrior Games, an annual Paralympics sporting competition, brings together ill and injured service members from the Army, Marine Corps, Navy, Air Force, SOCOM and the British Armed Forces. Approximately 250 athletes competed in the 2016 Warrior Games, held June 15 – 21 at West Point, in sports including archery, swimming, sitting volleyball and wheelchair basketball. Prior to the start of this year’s games, the Army posted a buy on FedBid to find a vendor to supply medals for those in the competition.
"I'm an ex-ARMY Medic, so I saw [the opportunity] and for myself, personally, that hit home," said Dan Levin, the Senior Sales Representative of Gallant Gifts, the U.S.-based promotional agency chosen by the Army to supply the customized medals. "One of our specialties is coming up with unique, one-of-a-kind promotional items. We can get a really good value by dealing directly with factories and get super creative with our designs."
Knowing these medals would be proudly displayed on this year’s champions, Levin ensured the items were exactly what the Army wanted. "We provide [our clients] with art renderings first, and then we always do pre-production samples for them to feel, touch, check out before mass production, so they know that the quality is going to match their brand," said Levin. "That’s why we’re called Gallant, like a white knight, we’re there to serve our clients for all their promotional and branding needs."
Levin's commitment also came out of his own understanding of how important the adaptive sports featured in the Warrior Games are to helping wounded veterans adjust.
"What [the Warrior Games] are doing for our soldiers is huge. It’s really helpful for those who come back with a disability. The games can inspire them. It shows them that they can still compete. Everything they’re going through, these [games] just help them work through that, because it's physical but a lot of it's still mental for them too."
Each year the Warrior Games are a reminder of the resilience and unwavering spirit of the men and women who have served in our Armed Forces, just as the 4th of July is a reminder of the resilience of our nation. Soldiers are known to never shy away from adversity, overseas or back home. These games showcase that attitude and prove that any obstacle can be overcome. This competition, from start to finish and long afterward, embodies the phrase – never give up.
