OFPP Encourages Use of Commercially Available Online Procurement Services

On May 12, 2004, OFPP Associate Administrator, Robert A. Burton, issued a governmentwide memorandum encouraging agencies to utilize commercially available online procurement services, including reverse auctions, for the acquisition of commercial items. According to OFPP, applying electronic technologies to the acquisition of commercial items generally results in savings for the taxpayer by increasing both government efficiencies and broader supplier participation.
