November 17, 2009

VIENNA, VIRGINIA, November 17, 2009 - FedBid, Inc., The Buyer-Driven Online Marketplace® for commodity buys, today announced that it has named General Thomas “Tom” Schwartz, United States Army, Retired, to FedBid’s Board of Advisors.

General Schwartz is currently chairman of the board of the Military Child Education Coalition (MCEC) and is the former Commanding General, US Army Forces Command, a position he assumed in 1998 following a long and decorated career. His last active duty assignment was Commander in Chief, United Nations Command, Combined Forces Command and US Forces Korea, a position he held from 1999 until he retired from active duty in 2002.

“We got to know Tom through FedBid’s community investment work with MCEC, and we were deeply impressed at the entrepreneurial spirit he brought to philanthropy,” said Luther Tupponce, FedBid’s Senior Vice President and General Counsel. “As we expand a high-growth, customer-oriented company like FedBid, we need the counsel of leaders like Tom, who have built and managed successful organizations at every level. With his deep knowledge of procurement operations and his broad leadership experience, Tom will be a vital addition to our Board of Advisors.”

“Too many procurement decisions are delayed by inefficiencies in the traditional buying process,” said General Schwartz. “FedBid’s success in providing an innovative procurement solution that really works makes it particularly impressive. With cutting-edge technology and comprehensive support services, FedBid continues to help government and military agencies get their procurement done faster, better, and at lower cost to the taxpayer. I look forward to working with FedBid to help extend the benefits of its online reverse auction marketplace to procurement professionals across the country and around the world.”

General Schwartz assumed the Chairmanship of MCEC in 2004, when MCEC was named Congressional Charity of the Year. General Schwartz and his wife Sandy were a decisive force in establishing MCEC in 1998 to ease transition issues facing military children and ensure that the children of military parents receive the best education possible within their school district.

General Schwartz’s current charitable activities follow a long and distinguished military career. In 1991, he was assigned to Korea, where he served as Chief of Staff, Combined Field Army, and in 1992 Brigadier General Schwartz became assistant division commander of the 2nd Infantry Division. In 1993, Major General Schwartz took command of Fort Carson and the 4th Infantry Division (Mechanized) until 1995, when he was promoted to lieutenant general and placed in command of Fort Hood and the III Corps.

In addition to General Schwartz’s extensive military and charitable achievements, he has received many decorations and awards, including the Army Distinguished Service Medal, the Silver Star, the Defense Superior Service Medal, the Legion of Merit, the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart, and the Air Medal. General Schwartz earned a Master’s Degree in Education from Duke University, a Master’s Degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College. General Schwartz also serves as a Board Member and Senior Advisor at both Science and Engineering Services Inc. and McLane Advanced Technologies, a Board Member at International Battery, a Senior Advisor at Azbell Electronics, and a Consultant at both Lockheed Martin and General Dynamics.
