March 31, 2010

VIENNA, VIRGINIA, March 31, 2010 — FedBid, Inc., The Buyer-Driven Online Marketplace® for commodity buys, today announced that it has named the Honorable John J. Young Jr. to its Board of Advisors. Young recently completed his service as Undersecretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics (AT&L), overseeing $200 billion of Defense Department research, development, procurement, and logistics programs.

Young previously served as the Director of Defense Research and Engineering (DDR&E) and as the Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition. His experience also includes 10 years as a senior staff member with the U.S. Senate Defense Appropriations Subcommittee. He is currently the principal in JY Strategies, LLC and a founding member of E6 Partners, LLC.

“In the military, improving efficiencies in acquisition can save more than just dollars. It can also save lives,” said FedBid President, Glenn Richardson. “John knows the importance of strengthening the acquisition process throughout government to make it easier, faster, more responsive, and less expensive. John was a leader in implementing many of those process improvements within the Department of Defense, and we look forward to working with him to help educate other government agencies about the efficiencies and savings available through innovations like the FedBid online reverse auction marketplace.”

“The U.S. military is one of the world’s largest buyers across a staggering range of products and services,” said Young. “For all of those purchases, it needs to find the right seller, at the right price, with the right solution, as quickly and efficiently as possible. That’s why I’m so impressed with FedBid’s online marketplace. Working with government and military buyers as partners, FedBid helps them reach thousands of qualified sellers and get faster, better, and less expensive bids for any commodity and simple service procurement need. It’s a commonsense solution, and it works.”

As Undersecretary of Defense, Young led an unprecedented Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicle program, drove the use of competitive prototyping, completed a remarkable swap of shipbuilding workload, established new milestone procedures through the new DoD 5000 instruction, and defined and achieved a broad set of goals within the AT&L organization.

During his Pentagon tenure, Young was awarded the DoD, Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Army Distinguished Civilian Service Awards, as well as the Department of the Navy Distinguished Public Service Award. He is a Fellow of the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and has a Master’s degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from Stanford University as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Aerospace Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Young also serves on the board of SRI International, the Georgia Tech Research Corporation, and the Potomac Institute for Policy Studies. He is a member of the Georgia Tech Aerospace Engineering School Advisory Committee.
