Senior VMware/ Network Engineer
FedBid currently has an opportunity for a well-rounded Network Engineer that also has strong experience in VMware and SANs. The candidate must be highly self-motivated, a quick learner and goal-oriented. Additionally, attention to detail, outstanding troubleshooting skills and the ability to work well within a team are critical for success. The ideal candidate must have the ability and desire to take on a leadership role as well have the consultant-level interpersonal skills.
Technical Requirements/ Skills:
VMware Environment:
- Maintain the VMware vSphere 4 Enterprise/ vCenter Server, iSCSI Equallogic SAN and switching environment in a 24x7 e-commerce marketplace
- Implement and maintain best practices for a virtualized environment to include change management procedures and up-to-date documentation of system design and operational procedures
- Maintain up-to-date patch levels
- Perform backups and restores
- Monitor for system health and proactively address demands for growth
- Implement, optimize, secure and tune new virtual machines
- Perform migration of physical to virtual for a Solaris- / SUSE- based e-commerce marketplace
- Cross train other engineers
- Utilize all the appropriate technologies for fault tolerance, optimized performance and high availability to support a 24x7 operation
- Document, create and enforce change management procedures
Network Engineering
- Install, configure and troubleshoot routers, switches and firewalls (preferably Cisco)
- Install, configure and troubleshoot various flavors of Unix, including SUSE and Solaris, as well as Windows Server
- Install, configure and troubleshoot VPNs
- Mastery of TCP/IP
- Document, create and enforce change management procedures
- Write scripts to automate tasks
- Must have experience implementing and managing SANs, preferably Dell Equallogic
Required Education:
- BS in Information Systems, Computer Science or related discipline preferred, but not required. Certification in applicable technologies will be weighted and factored.
Years of Experience:
- 8-10 years of experience in network engineering and virtualization
Additional Considerations:
- Preferred certifications from Solaris, VMware, Microsoft and Cisco, including (but not limited to) SCNA/SCSA, VCP/ VCAP, MCSE, CCNE/ CCNP
